Research fields:

  1. High performance polyimide materials

Signal loss and delay caused by dielectric insulants have become increasingly remarkable with the rapid development of microelectronic device miniaturization and high frequency telecommunication, which severely limiting the microelectronic industrial advancement in high density interconnection according to Moores Law. Therefore, it remains an urgently important research topic of how to reduce the dielectric constant (Dk) and dielectric loss (Df) of polyimide that is prevalent substrate in state-of-the-art flexible microelectronic devices. Meanwhile, transparency of polyimide plays important role in determining the device efficiency of thin film optoelectronics and flexible display, so how to improve the optical transparency of polyimide is an important research topic. The researches on the optimization of polyimide in dielectric and optical properties involve polymer structural design, monomer and polymer synthesis, structure-properties relationship exploration and device performance investigation, requiring interdisciplinary studies of organic synthesis, material physics and chemistry, microelectronics and optoelectronics. Our works focus on alicyclic and fluorinated polyimides employing the alicyclic structure of natural chemicals like camphor, rosin and dipentene, attempting to construct a bridging pathway between naturally occurring material and high performance polyimides for sophisticated applications.

  1. Functional organosilicon materials

China has become the biggest producer and consumer market of organosilicon materials, yet mostly distributed upon monomer, common commodities of silicone, silicon resin and silicon rubber, in lack of functional organosilicon specialties. After many years of trial and validation, we have developed reactive olefin-containing organosilicon compounds, siloxane-containing diamine, highly heat-resistant organosilicon compounds and perfluoroalkyl organosilicon materials, which would play significant roles in green metal corrosion inhibition, powder surface modification, interfacial performance enhancement for sophisticated microelectronics and composites, and properties upgradation of traditional organosilicon products as well.

  1. Biomedical polymer materials

Aiming at solving the common clinical problems facing biomedical polymers, we start from monomer design and synthesize functional polymer materials to improve their bio- and blood compatibility, anticipating to impart medical devices with greater safety and clinical reliability.
